“Kizazi Kinjacho” is the Swahili phrase meaning the “Next Generation” of people. HEART Kenya and our many partners are working to build a strong base for the families afflicted with HIV.
A key initiative with our partners is the expansion of vocational training opportunities for the children of the WEEP mothers with HIV. In many cases their children also are afflicted with HIV and the challenges which are in their lives.
The HEART Program is “The Next Generation”, a vocational training program ranging from wood turning to welding. We have brought the HEART Team to Winters, California to see the Ag Mechanics Programs at Winters High School and the state of the art in vocational training at the PG&E Gas Training Academy. We are working to build curriculum and advance their overall skill training to allow the advancement of these young people in the trades for high paying jobs both in Africa and abroad. It is working.

In this video you will meet my friends Issac, Brian, Vinic and Stephanie who bring the magic to HEART. You will see concepts like a “vertically integrated” leadership model in full operation. You will hear in their voices both the struggles and strength they deal with. Mostly, you will see the grit of people on the edge literally cutting a future for themselves. You will see what “enabling hope” can do with creating opportunity for people on the edge. My friends will inspire you!
It all begins with some basics. I want to acknowledge the generosity of my father in law, Richard Tjaden who teamed with the Rotary Club of Auburn to donate a critically needed generator to the Manga NextGen Center near Kissi. Electrical power is not great in Africa and its tools like this which literally keep the lights on and the equipment working. Here is a presentation showing our team installing the generator.
